Hello guys, I hope you’re all doing fine? I will give you a few updates. AlpineLinux is at 3.9.4 Fedora 30 Ubuntu 19.04 (only Server, but you could install the GUI) OpenSuse 15.1 IBM AIX 7.2.3 GNUstep 2.5: http://wiki.gnustep.org/index.php/GNUstep_Live_CD ArchLinux is now available on POWER (Alpha version, unofficial) https://archlinuxpower.org VoidLinux has now an installer for PPC32 (not public yet). Still unofficial. But works also on Wii and Wii U: https://twitter.com/FoxletFox/status/1132014335943950336 https://github.com/void-power/documentation/blob/master/README.md AdelieLinux has still no installer and the first bunch of Blackbird mainboards should ship this week :-) Greetings to all |

Hello Carlos, Could be worse... You? Thanks for the updates. I updated AIX 7.2 to 7.2.3, Alpine 3.9.0 to 3.9.4, OpenSuse 15.0 to 15.1 and Ubuntu 14.04.6 to partial support. I added Fedora 30, Ubuntu 18.10, Ubuntu 19.04 and the latest Arch alpha image. As for GNUStep, there are still no trace of 2.5, 2.5.1 or 2.6 for PowerPC or Sparc64. I regularly check their sites for years now, to no avail at all. To be honest, GNU Step 2.5 or 2.6 could be the only usable Linux for Sparc64, but nothing happens. Not surprisingly, since it's based on Debian 9, which dropped almost everything aside from x86 and ARM. Void can be the defacto PowerPC distribution, if they will ever be done... All of the other Linuxes are either not supported, not suitable for normal desktop usage, systemd infected, or 64-bit little-endian only. The only exception is Ubuntu 16.04, or maybe if we are content with "partial" support, then Debian 8 and Ubuntu 14.04 too. |

I'm doing fine so far, thanks :-) You are right with GNUstep, sorry. I just read GNUstep 2.5 and thought this is also available for PowerPC. I agree, VoidLinux and AdelieLinux look most promising. VoidLinux goes public, right now. For PPC32, PPC64 and PPC64le. I will install it the next few days. Will you give it a try also? https://twitter.com/octaforge/status/1133384109865230341 And for AdelieLinux there will also be an installer available until Q3/2019. Because the maintainer of Adelie and Void work closely together. And Debian 10 is also available for PowerPC over ports. But unfortunately it is no Tier-1 anymore. This is only because the lack of manpower. They are currently switching from Yaboot to GRUB. |

Maybe later, but not now; i have been fully buried by life, i am glad if i have time for anything. Sounds good. Mostly Linux distributions are fighting each other, not helping. Good to finally see a counterexample. And Debian 9? Is it available, even if it is not Tier-1? Or 9 is not, because they just brought back Debian to the PowerPC realms and they had only enough resources for one version? I did not tried Debian 10 yet, but i use Devuan 2, which is based on Debian 9 and it's usable; and if it is works under PowerPC, then maybe GNUStep will release 2.5 or 2.6 to PowerPC. Próbáld meg a "sötétség" idején a Ctrl + Alt + F-gombokat, lehet, hogy csak rossz terminált nézel, másikra került a grafikus képernyő. Ha nem, akkor a mostani X11 logokat is beadhatnád. |

Debian 9 is also available: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/ The snapshots are Debian 10, but AFAIK they still have problems with GRUB. Adelie and Void cares a lot about big endian. It's quite funny, on the talos-workstation IRC Freenode channel. When the developers talk about little endian, the maintainer of Adelie says every time, that she also cares about be ;-) |

Hey, thanks! I quickly updated my list with Void and Debian 9 images. Big question is, if there are BE PPC repositories for D9, or not. IMHO, it not about the endianity itself, but the endianity of the available machines. If most available desktop machines are BE, then that should be the priority target for support. (Also, PowerPC is actually bi-endian, not big or little.) |

AFAIK, there are repositories for D9 and D10. They just need feedback from users. Regards the GNUstepers, the question is, if they are aware that there is still a D9 PowerPC image via ports? There is also a POWER9BSD (based on FreeBSD) https://github.com/POWER9BSD/freebsd HelenOS was updated to 0.9.1: http://www.helenos.org/wiki/Download And as of now, Fienix supports PPC64: X1000, X5000 and G5: https://fienixppc.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_15.html And also a port of OpenBSD will come to POWER9 some day: https://twitter.com/RaptorCompSys/status/1133466342567366659 |

Well, as soon as i will have some time, i will update the D8 on my G5. I hope it will work. Good question. I think i'll drop a mail to them. Sounds good, but does it exists only in source form? Thanks for saying, i updated both my lists. Hey, that is great news! As i see, Fienix is based on Debian, so even if Debian will totally stop supporting PPC, this one may be a good replacement. I added their stuff to my list. While it is good, that they will support the Raptor, i think they should normally support the G5 first; currently OpenBSD runs only in G4 mode on the G5. |

Good catch on REBUG, I saw it, too yesterday lately. Updating D8 to D9, even D10 should work. I know a few guys who has done this. About POWER9BSD, AFAIK yes. Only source. But it's also on that list: https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/Operating_System_Compatibility_List And if you're looking about PowerISA documents: https://wiki.raptorcs.com/wiki/Power_ISA ;-) |
