Yes and Fedora 31 will be maintained until four weeks after the release of Fedora 33. Which means until Ende of November 2020, I guess. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Release_Life_Cycle#Maintenance_Schedule Raptor has definitely raised concerns. Maybe it has something to do with the FSF certification. https://www.talospace.com/2020/08/power10-sounds-really-great-but.html https://twitter.com/RaptorCompSys/status/1308862160873848834 Wie have to wait and see. But it's quite possible that some "cheap" PowerPC SBC will pop-up in the future https://twitter.com/RaptorCompSys/status/1304483782116995073?s=20 https://twitter.com/hughhalf/status/1288657079196987392?s=20 Maybe based on PowerPC A2I or A2O https://www.talospace.com/2020/09/moar-openpower-cores-plz.html However, it has to be POWER8 compatible (with VMX/VSX). There is also a fork of Microwatt what added VMX/VSX support https://github.com/paulusmack/microwatt/commits/vecvsx You can't do it for everyone with this list. PowerPC has disappeared from the desktop for almost two decades now. There is not much left except Linux and BSD. I think there are enough people who like this list. Is Tribblix not for desktop use. Tribblix got also an update: http://www.tribblix.org Here is MacOS X 10.4.6 and 10.5.8 https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-osx-mac-os-10-ppc |

So, i am not alone with my second thoughts about the memory controller's firmware. This guy is right, if we want to have a computer we can fully trust, then we have to know what it does, down to the tiniest details. Even if it would not make any sense to put malicious code into a memory controller's firmware. That is some great news; that stuff ought to be much cheaper than the big Raptor irons, so maybe even i can afford one. :P I know. I only mentioned these for them being funny. And the nextgen Amiga OS-es. MoprhOS 4 will have memory protection, SMP, 2GB+ memory support and rumors says they are considering supporting the Raptor machines. I hope so. No, but i include every kind of OS here, including server and embedded too. Thanks for the update. Soon, i'll update the entry. Hey, thanks, now we have downloads for all Apple entries.
Yep, they are celebrating their quarter century long existence and their 25th birthday gift was the Raptor support. HB OpenBSD! :) |

I thought about AmigaOS for POWER, too. Because Trevor bought a TalosII long time ago and AmigaOS last update was in 2016. But I'm not sure about MorphOS since they're moving to x86. NetBSD was also pushed to 9.1 these days: https://www.netbsd.org/ There are also a port going on to PPC64le for NetBSD as well as FreeBSD. Which one is the better BSD, Net, Open or Free? I searched an Google but didn't found something useful. |

No, not moving, extending. They are not decided yet, to drop the POWER platform, or not. Right now, they did not excluded the possibility of supporting the Raptor machines. Thanks, updated. Not suprising, LE PPC64 gets a lot of attention nowdays. OSX, of course. :] (And by OSX, i mean Tiger of course. :P) No, seriously, betteris subjective, as in: better for what? NetBSD aims for portability, so if you want to run a BSD on anything in sight, NetBSD is the best. OpenBSD aims for security, so if you want to use (nearly) unbreakable BSD-s, then OpenBSD is the best. FreeBSD aims to deliver an all-around OS which can be used as desktop, server, embedded or whatever and due to this they have more programs and drivers, so if you want to use BSD instead of Linux, but you have driver issues with and/or miss apps from the other BSD-s, then FreeBSD is the best. From POWER perspective, FreeBSD sucks. 8.2 was absolutely miserable on G4 and 10 was too. Then, i've managed to install 11 on my G5 (barely), but it took a lot of suffering. NetBSD is a bit better. NetBSD 7 installed flawlessly on G5, but failed to work at all. And it was a real torture to install it on the G4 and had problems afterwards, but my machine had RAM problems, so that might be not NetBSD's fault. Did not tried again on the G4 since then. I did not yet tried OpenBSD on POWER machines, only on ARM and x86. Flawlessly worked there, but on x86 and ARM, NetBSD and FreeBSD worked flawlessly too. |

The company called me back. I've passed the test. However, since i can only work remotely, they rejected me, they don't allow that to their employees. |

Oh no. What a bummer. A big disappointment ... I was expecting everything, but not this ... these guys could have told you that in the beginning. Hehe, yes. I should have asked better about the differences of these BSD types. |

Well, granted, i've only told them about the remote work, after completing the test. Thought, that i should prove myself first, that i can deliver from home, as i did. But in Hungary, these small scale enterprises are almost exclusively lead by paranoid caesaroman idiots, who all thinks, that the stinking employee will "facebook" instead of work, if they work from home. I'm not even on facebook... Besides, if i don't do my job, then my tasks won't be finished, so i cannot really pretend work, without getting busted. They don't care. (And we didn't even talked about the travelling, which can take 3-4 hours per day, which is not part of your worktime, so you lose that time for free.) But big foreign companies ignore me, regardless, that i have more than twenty years of programming experience. Linkedin does not work. Well, i think you'll have the chance to get to know them better, if they are willing to support the Raptor machines, even if only in little endian mode. |

It was actually not a bad idea to first prove yourself and then tell about the remote work. It could have been that they are so convinced of your work that they accept it. Have you ever applied to Red Hat? They offer a lot of remote working, although not in Hungary. I would like to try a spontaneous application. https://careers-redhat.icims.com/jobs/search I would also refer to some code examples. Then they can see what you have to offer. I have a well-known guy who got a job offer from Apple (in 2005) because they saw some of his code examples (Altivec) on the internet. But he refused it with the reason that he doesn't want to write x86 vector code. Or have a look here: https://remotehub.io/remote-jobs-in-hungary Or here: https://hu.linkedin.com/jobs/sql-remote-jobs https://stackoverflow.com/jobs?q=sql&l=Budapest%2C+Hungary&d=100&u=Km&r=true&j=Contract https://de.indeed.com/Jobs?q=sql%20Remote&sort=date&lang=en&vjk=a65919cf98f83019 Quote:"We currently offer a full-time remote work setup." I guess, you know all these sites already. I think also that maybe NetBSD is the best option. Sadly OpenBSD is BE only. Worths a shot, thanks for the tip...but i hope i will not be put on systemd developing tasks...although it might be easier to destroy it from the inside. :] I'm not surprised. Vectors on x86 were a true pain in the ass. I don't know how the situation has improved since on the x86 side, but then, he was right about it. I did not know remotehub and indeed, thanks for showing them. (I saw a Java job on indeed, 500 EUR/day, which means 10k EUR/month. That is a yearly income for me... Maybe i should continue learning Java; four years ago i started to learn it and after 9 hour i made a simple Tetris game in it...but then i stopped, because i really disliked it.) NetBSD is BE-only too and 32-bit-only on top of that; OpenBSD at least has begun to support real 64-bit POWER, until this point they were 32-bit-only too. FreeBSD supports 64-bit POWER since a half decade, but it is still only Tier-2. NetBSD also. (With the exception of EvBPPC, that is Tier-1.) OpenBSD has full support for both POWER-based Macs and PowerNV. I don't know how good it is though. Thanks, tomorrow i'll update them. :) |

Yeah, I noticed it. I would not surprised if this comes from Google (YouTube) itself. Because, if you have a premium YT account you have the possibility to download, IIRC. There is also a Hungarian Indeed site: https://hu.indeed.com/jobs?q=mysql&l= This looks interesting: https://www.percona.com/about-percona/careers A few job boards: https://arc.dev/remote-jobs/ https://www.glassdoor.com/Job/remote-sql-jobs-SRCH_IL.0,6_IS11047_KO7,10.htm https://www.ziprecruiter.com/jobs/search?l=Remote&q=MYSQL&remote=full https://freshremote.work A big list of remote job boards: https://github.com/lukasz-madon/awesome-remote-job#job-boards This sounds promising, but it seems you need an account ... https://6nomads.com |
